It is made from eight pieces of kimono fabric. I chose contrasting kimono fabrics to create a scarf with a colour scheme not found in western clothing. The fabrics used are of different ages, origins and production methods, but the colour scheme is well balanced. For the lining, I used summer kimono (sha). It is a special thin fabric with a translucent feel.
Kimonos can be co-ordinated by combining completely different colours. I am happy that I was able to make this scarf based on it.
A new piece is born when a kimono that was once treasured by someone in Japan is unraveled and combined with fabric from another country. The fabrics that come together, transcending time and borders, live on in the history of their new owners..
